Mission Statement

Protecting Wildlife Through
Education & Conservation

Precision Reptiles promotes conservation of native wildlife through live, hands-on presentations. Our reptile shows provide the public with a better understanding of natural ecosystems and why preserving all native inhabitants, including snakes, elapids, pythons, crocodiles, monitors, lizards, dragons, skinks, and geckos, is integral to environmental sustainability.

Our interactive wildlife education also features essential snake bite first aid and safety advice to help reduce snake bite deaths across Australia. Through reptile breeding projects and community awareness initiatives, including snake bite awareness programs and snake refresher courses, we help curb human impacts on wildlife and preserve our natural world for future generations.

Bite First Aid

Pressure Immobilisation Technique (PIT)

Knowing what to do in the first critical minutes after a snake or funnel web spider bite
can save a life. The Pressure Immobilisation Technique is the recommended
first aid method for bites on a limb.

Step 1

Apply a Pressure Bandage

  • Sit the casualty down and keep them still
  • Apply a broad pressure bandage (10-15cm wide)
  • Wrap firmly, starting at the fingers or toes
  • Work upward, covering as much of the limb as possible
  • Bandage should feel firm like a sprained ankle wrap
  • You should not be able to slide a finger between the bandage and skin

Step 2

Splint the Limb

  • Keep the casualty sitting down and still
  • Immobilise the limb using a splint
  • Prevent muscle & joint movement
  • This helps slow venom spreading through the lymphatic system
  • Reassure the casualty while waiting for emergency services
  • Do not remove the bandage or wash the bite area

Step 3

Alternative Method

  • Use crepe bandages or torn clothing if no commercial bandage is available
  • Fold materials into broad strips
  • Apply firm, even pressure
  • Immobilise the limb using any rigid object like a stick or rolled magazine
  • The goal is to restrict venom spread and keep the casualty calm
